Misappropriation: Retired Postal Staff, Aide Held
KOCHI: The CBI on Friday registered case against a retired Superintendent of Post Office and an agent of the Mahila Pradhan Kshetriya Bachat Yojana (MPKBY), who allegedly diverted money given by the public for depositing in the recurring deposit of the Postal Department, in Pathanamthitta.
B Anil Kumar, retired Superintendent of Post Office, Thattayil post office, Pathanamthitta, and Lissy Rajan, MPKBY agent of the same post office, were arrested for diverting Rs 31.75 lakh.
According to CBI officials, the case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by the Postal Department against Anil Kumar.
“While serving at the Thattayil post office, Anil Kumar entered into a criminal conspiracy with Lissy Rajan, who used to collect money from the depositors and entrust the same with Anil Kumar. The misappropriation took place between June 2009 and August 2011. They allegedly diverted Rs 31.75 lakh from 89 accounts,” CBI officials said.
Anil Kumar entered the details of the amount in the pass books of the depositors and duly stamped them. However, he allegedly did not deposit the money in the respective accounts.
Last year, on learning about the misappropriation, the depositors filed complaints with the authorities. Later, the Department lodged a complaint with the CBI, after conducting an internal inquiry.
