Facebook opens to under-13s

Under-13s will now be able to join Facebook, but with their parents’ nod.
Facebook has filed a related patent in the U.S. If an underage user tries to access the site, Facebook will ask for “parental authorisation” via an existing account.
The child will have to tell Facebook who his or her parents are and the site will run a check on a parent’s account to confirm the relationship and age of the user, Facebook says in the patent.
Once an underage user’s account has been linked to the parent’s, the adults would be able to monitor their online behaviour and control privacy and applications.
