Central Administrative Tribunal dismisses postal department employee’s plea

CHENNAI: The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has dismissed a petition filed by an employee of the postal department who had been issued a charge memo for misbehaving with a colleague.

N D Prassana Kumar, a mailman in Railway Mail Service division of Madurai, said the department had not appointed him as a cashier on a leave vacancy. Instead, the sub record officer appointed a junior to the post. He had an altercation with the record officer, Murugesan, after which he allegedly attacked him. A charge memo was issued and his pay scale was reduced by Rs 200 for a period of two years from 2006.

Kumar filed an appeal against the disciplinary committee's punishment in the appellate board. As it was dismissed, he approached CAT.

A bench comprising judicial member B V Rao and administrative member P Prabhakaran dismissed the appeal and said the appellant did not make any case for interfering with the department's order.
