Postal department to open 3 ATM centres by December

AURANGABAD : Chief postmaster general of Maharashtra and Goa circle, Col K C Mishra, said on Friday said that three ATM centres would be opened in Aurangabad division of the postal department by December. The three centres will come up at Juna Bazaar main post office in Aurangabad, head post office in Jalna and sub-post office at Bhokardan.

Speaking at a press conference held in the city, Mishra said that the postal department was aiming to become a technology-enabled market leader field in the coming days. "We are also implementing core banking solutions (CBS) for savings schemes. The customers will benefit through the ATM centres set up on the premises of 1,000 selected post offices across India, including 75 in the state. In Aurangabad region, there will be 17 ATMs. However, we are setting up three centres in the region in the first phase," he said.

Mishra said the CBS would provide the customers access to accounts from post offices and through internet banking. The CBS facility will come into effect from next year. Besides, Mishra said that all the post offices in the country would become paperless in the next three years.

"The ongoing IT modernization project of the postal department will ultimately cover the entire network using appropriate technology. A proposal for setting up the " Post Bank of India" is under consideration of the Government of India. It is aimed at financial inclusion, particularly in rural areas, by using the last mile reach of India Post," he said.

"India Post has planned its transformation to shoulder more responsibilities. The first step towards significant change has been the implementation of Project Arrow, an initiative to transform India Post into a vibrant and responsive organization and to make a visible and positive difference in postal operations. Project Arrow has been implemented in 18,602 post offices across India, including 1,693 in Maharashtra of which 235 are in Aurangabad region," he added.
